Details

A company billed a disabled veteran over $21,000 for a claim he could have filed himself for free. No one in Congress has taken more of their money than Jack Bergman, and now he’s sponsoring a bill to legalize their “claim shark” scam so they can keep preying on veterans.

As a Marine wife and longtime veterans advocate, Callie Barr will protect our veterans. Callie advocates for disabled veterans, and has helped them file for their benefits free of charge.

• Veterans Guardian, a company a federal judge has ruled illegally charged disabled veterans, billed one veteran $21,360 for a claim he could have filed for free.
• Jack Bergman is a top recipient of campaign donations from Veterans Guardian’s executives and PAC, and the lead sponsor of legislation that would legalize charging disabled veterans for help with filing VA disability claims. It would also grant them amnesty for scamming vets, and stop Michigan from stepping in to protect their veterans.
• The companies that profit from ripping off veterans are paying Bergman. But 44 attorneys general, Republicans and Democrats, signed onto a letter opposing the claim sharks, and major veterans organizations including the VFW and DAV oppose Bergman’s bill.
• Callie Barr has a proven track record of protecting our veterans. After her husband, Marine Gunnery Sergeant Matt Barr, returned from multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, she fought to get him the care he needed, working with the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers and Blue Star Families.
• She went back to school so she could be an even more effective advocate. As an attorney, she provided pro bono services to help veterans file their disability claims for free and she will continue to be a champion for veterans in Congress.
