Instead of fighting for the resources this district needs and delivering results on healthcare costs and grocery prices, Bergman has handed Northern Michigan families the bill for travel, luxury meals, and hotel rooms while letting his staffers line their own pockets.

Jack Bergman owns a multimillion-dollar home in Louisiana where he lives, has called himself a snowbird, and says he plans to retire in Louisiana. In Michigan's First District, Bergman was registered to vote at a pole barn and has not held a town hall in Michigan in nearly a decade. He holds fundraisers with wealthy Louisiana campaign donors, including oil and gas interests, while ignoring Michigan families.

Jack Bergman voted for our families to get the largest Medicaid cut in American history, leaving 8 million Americans without health insurance. He voted to make monthly healthcare premiums more expensive and increase red tape designed to kick people off their coverage while putting Michigan's rural hospitals at risk of closure. The cuts will greatly worsen Michigan’s rural healthcare crisis, which has already seen the closure of Ontonagon County’s hospital as well as the closure of birthing centers in Laurium, Ironwood and Tawas, as well as hospital bed reductions throughout the region.

Jack Bergman chooses politics over Michiganders every time. He supports the disastrous Iran war that's caused gas prices to skyrocket. He voted to protect the tariffs that are raising costs on everything from fertilizer and utilities to groceries and building materials.

Jack Bergman has failed to deliver for UP and Northern Michigan families who have had their water contaminated with poison called PFAS from Air Force Bases and other military facilities. Despite the fact that PFAS can cause cancer and other illnesses, families have been waiting to get their water cleaned up for over a decade because of stonewalling and delays by the Department of Defense. Now the Air Force has announced even further delays of up to 5 to 10 years. Jack Bergman chairs the subcommittee that oversees the Air Force and he has the power to force them to clean up the poison now – but he has not done it! He writes letters and makes speeches while families in northern Michigan wait for safe drinking water. Water is a basic human right and our families have waited long enough.

Jack Bergman has advocated for privatizing Social Security for more than a decade so his buddies on Wall Street can make money off of our retirement. And when Elon Musk's DOGE slashed the Social Security Administration by thousands of employees, he cheered it on and said it was "just the beginning." Now more than half of retirees must wait more than a month just to get an appointment to apply for the benefits they earned, and callers to the 800 number have to wait over an hour to talk to an agent.

Jack Bergman has failed our veterans. He supports privatizing the VA, which would make it more expensive and take longer for veterans to get their benefits. Shockingly, he took money from companies that prey on veterans, known as “claim sharks,” then authored a bill to protect them! He is the top beneficiary of campaign money from for-profit companies that rip off veterans. After receiving contributions, he even wrote a bill that protects them from prosecution for scamming veterans out of tens of thousands of dollars for services that should have been free. And his bill will block states from regulating them as well!

A May 2026 Detroit News investigation revealed that Bergman's top congressional aides are running a private political consulting operation on the side, working to control Republican primaries across his district. Their clients receive Jack Bergman’s endorsement. Two of Bergman’s constituents filed a formal House ethics complaint into the matter.
